2018-2019 Season Recap
2018-2019 Lady Dragons Season Recap
The third quarter of the school year is coming to a close and as teachers are putting in quarter grades the winter sports season is winding down. For the 2017-2018 Season the Lady Dragons finished the season with a record of 6-17, we doubled our wins from last season and are proud of that accomplishment. This season was full of special moments including a trip to the University of Nebraska Lincoln Women’s Basketball game which the girls were able to watch them compete against Maryland in a competitive game. I am thankful for all the girls who started and finished the season.
We concluded our season on February 12th as we played Norfolk Catholic in our first round sub-district game and lost the game 51 to 20. The game did not go the way we wanted it to, however our effort and attitude did not waiver and I am proud of that. These girls have built a special bond as the season has progressed through the tough losses and the exhilarating wins. In our most recent win against David City on February 8th we scored the most points we’ve scored all season and achieved our 6th win of the season with a score of 57 to 46. There is a video on social media displaying the enthusiasm that was shared as a group in the locker room.
I would like to recognize our seniors this season and what they meant to the program and our younger players. Our 4 seniors this year are Betcy Saldana, Brittney Jurgens, Megan Eisenmann, & Samantha Henery. Each senior brought their own talents to the team and it shaped who we were are. Brittney held her teammates to a high expectation, Megan encouraged her teammates to do their very best, Betcy always had something to smile about, and Sammie exemplified being resilient by always trying her best and improving each day. I am proud of all of girls who participated in and finished the season this year. As we move forward into the 2018 summer and the 2018-2019 season, I am excited about the production we saw on the floor this season.
The following players received significant varsity minutes this season Brooke Mewis, Riley Jurgens, Rachel Jackson, Haley Butts, Hannah Anderson, & Marie Sjuts. This will benefit our team a lot and help our transition from this year to the next year. Coach Kyle Jackson will continue to coach with us and he is a great benefit to our program during season as well as in the off season. Helping facilitate team and individual camps is essential to the growth of our players and program. We as a coaching staff are excited for the future and feel confident in our ability to continue getting better. I would like to thank all the parents, players, bus drivers, bookkeepers, custodians, staff, community members, and anyone who helped make the 2017-2018 season great, sincerely, Thank you!
